How to prepare your android device for trade-in

How to Prepare Your Android Device for Trade-In

So, you’re ready to trade in your old Android phone with Frift? Whether you’re upgrading to the latest model or just decluttering, preparing your device properly ensures that your trade-in goes smoothly. Let’s dive into the steps you should take to make sure everything is in tip-top shape for your trade-in! 1. Back Up Your Data Before you say goodbye to your old Android device, it’s important to back up all your important files. This means photos, contacts, apps, messages—basically everything you don’t want to lose. To back up your data: Google Account Backup: Go to Settings > System > Backup and make sure “Back up to Google Drive” is turned on. This will save your contacts, calendar events, photos, and more. Manual Backups: If you have important files (photos, documents, etc.) that aren’t backed up automatically, manually upload them to Google Drive, or transfer them to your computer or external storage. Tip: Use apps like Google Photos to back up your photos and videos in the cloud.  2. Sign Out of Google Services Your Google account is tied to everything on your device, so to ensure your data is secure and your phone is ready for trade-in, sign out of all Google services. This step is also important for security reasons. Open Settings > Accounts > Google and sign out of your Google account. Make sure to sign out of apps like Google Drive, Gmail, YouTube, and any other Google services you use. 3. Factory Reset Your Device Now that your data is safely backed up and your accounts are signed out, it’s time for a factory reset. This will wipe all your personal data off the device and restore it to its original settings. Go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Data Reset. Tap Reset and follow the on-screen instructions. Important Note: A factory reset is irreversible, so make sure everything is backed up before proceeding. After this, you won’t be able to recover any data from the device. 4. Remove Your SIM Card You don’t want to leave your SIM card behind. Not only does it hold your mobile number, but it also contains data like text messages and contacts. Power off your device and locate the SIM card tray (usually on the side or top). Use a SIM ejector tool  to pop out the tray and remove your SIM card. Keep your SIM card in a safe place, or transfer it to your new phone. 5. Remove Any Accessories Make sure to remove any phone cases, screen protectors, or additional accessories. 6. Clean Your Device Make your device look its best! Gently wipe the screen and body with a microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals to prevent damage. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe off fingerprints, dust, and smudges from the screen and body. For hard-to-reach spots, use a soft brush or compressed air to clean out the charging port, speaker grilles, and other small areas. Conclusion Following these steps ensures your Android phone is ready for trade-in with Frift. By backing up your data, signing out of your accounts, performing a factory reset, and giving your device a quick clean, you can make sure everything goes smoothly.

Don’t forget to clean the ports and vents – a can of compressed air can help blast out the dust! 2. Backup Your Data Before parting ways with your console, make sure you back up all your data. Save your game data, profile info, and any downloadable content or settings you might want later. For Xbox or PlayStation, you can use cloud storage for this.  For Switch, you’ll need to use a microSD card. Don’t forget to sign out of any accounts, too! 3. Remove Any Personal Information We’re all about privacy, so make sure to erase your personal info from the console. Make sure to do a factory reset – this ensures all your data is completely removed, and your console is ready for trade-in. PlayStation (PS4 & PS5) PS4: Go to Settings from the main menu. Scroll down and select Initialization. Select Initialize PS4. Choose Full (this will completely wipe your system). Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset. Follow the on-screen instructions. Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide. Go to Settings > System > Console Info. Select Reset Console. You’ll have two options: Reset and remove everything (this will delete all your data and return the console to its original factory state). Reset and keep my games & apps (this only resets system settings but keeps your games and apps). Select Reset and remove everything for a full reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset. Nintendo Switch From the Home Menu, go to System Settings. Scroll down and select System. Select Formatting Options at the bottom. Choose Initialize Console. Select Initialize and then follow the on-screen instructions. You’ll be given the option to delete all data or only certain profiles. What Does Refurbished Mean?

What Does Refurbished Mean?

The formal definition of ‘refurbished’ is a phone or device that has previous owners but, unlike a second-hand phone, a retailer will have repaired it, run checks and ensured it is a certain standard. But here at Frift, refurbished means a whole lot more… At Frift we pride ourselves in using market-leading testing software, operated by our incredible tech-team with over 100 years combined industry experience. With more than 170 check-points actioned; focusing on battery life, audio, touch screen compatibility and much more, we ensure devices function as good as new. During these check-points our team will determine if parts need replacing or repairing. We will only ever use high-quality, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts when a replacement is necessary. You may question why the same phone comes in different ‘conditions’ with varying price points. The reason isn’t because it can’t be refurbished, a majority of phones with love, care and attention can look brand-new again. We want everyone to have more choice, from the latest tech that looks brand new, to something more budget friendly with a few cosmetic blemishes. There are abounding benefits to refurbished devices that many people aren’t aware of. Here at Frift, we truly believe it is the right way to buy tech. What is IMEI and where do I find it?

What is IMEI and where do I find it?

If you've ever heard of the term IMEI and wondered what it means, you're not alone. It's one of those techy acronyms that gets thrown around often, but not everyone knows what it stands for or why it's important. In this blog post, we'll break down what an IMEI is, why you should care about it, and how you can easily find it on your device. What is an IMEI? IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. It's a unique number assigned to every mobile device that uses cellular networks, like smartphones, tablets, and even some smartwatches. Think of it as your device's fingerprint. No two devices have the same IMEI, which makes it easy for network providers and, manufacturers to identify a specific device. An IMEI number is usually 15 digits long and can reveal useful information about your device, such as its make, model, and origin. It's primarily used for identifying the device on a network, but it’s also helpful if your phone is lost or stolen. When reported, the IMEI can be blacklisted, which means your phone can no longer be used on most networks, effectively rendering it useless to thieves. Where Do I Find My IMEI? Finding your IMEI is easier than you might think! Here are several ways to locate it on your device: Dial a Code The easiest and fastest way to find your IMEI is to dial *#06# on your phone’s keypad. As soon as you press the last #, your IMEI will pop up on the screen. You don’t need to hit call—just type it in, and your phone will display the number instantly. Check the Settings For iPhone: Go to Settings → General → About. Scroll down, and you’ll see your IMEI listed. For Android: Go to Settings → About Phone → Status or IMEI Information. On the SIM Tray or Back of the Phone In some phones, particularly older models, the IMEI is printed on the SIM card tray or under the battery. On newer devices like iPhones, you can find the IMEI printed on the back of the device or the SIM tray. Check the Box If you still have the original box your phone came in, the IMEI number is often printed on the label, along with other details like the serial number and model. Wrapping It Up Your IMEI is an essential piece of information that can help protect your device and ensure smooth interactions with network providers. Whether you're troubleshooting, purchasing a used phone, or reporting a lost device, knowing how to find your IMEI is a helpful skill every phone owner should have.   Looking to earn cash for your old tech?
